"No Flash, Please"

"No Flash, Please"/ small watercolor 5"X7"/original painting

Whilst looking for inspiration in the Kemper Art Museum, a Canadian tourist was snapping a photo, but "No flash, please." I enjoyed how surreal everything looked with these large colorful canvases as the backdrop.
Notice, the repetition of shapes and colors in the subject and the background painting. I used creative license to cast her shadow on the canvas behind her; without it, the yellow vertical shape seemed to fall off the page. Also, the yellow canvas reflected this wonderful yellow light on the back of her figure; notice, too, the reflections in the ever-so-shiny wooden floors.  The exhibition featured works by Jules Olistski.  http://www.kemperart.org/exhibits/revelation_olitski.asp
