"The Red Towel"

"The Red Towel, Hawaii"/ oil on canvas 6"X8"/original oil painting
ABOUT THIS PAINTING: This painting was done from sketches and a photo I had taken in Hawaii during my painting trip there in recent years. These young gals were engrossed in summer fun and oblivious to the riot of color surrounding them. I was caught up in the rhythm of the shapes and colors. Notice the "puzzle pieces" of negative shapes between the figures. I love these scenes where the viewer peers into the other people's goings on and is left to create their own dialogue.

"Sailboat Cove 3, Smithville Lake, Missouri

"Sailboat Cove 3, Smithville Lake, Missouri"/ oil on canvas 6"X8"/original oil painting
ABOUT THIS PAINTING: This painting was created on location at Smithville Lake's Sailboat Cove which is situated by a darling little town called "Paradise". It was quite a windy day, that turned out to be colder than expected.  I like the little nesting family of sailboats-holding steadfast, in spite of the wind.

"CHALK TALK #3"

Chalk Talk #3/ 6"X8" original oil painting on archival canvas panel

ON DAILY PAINTINGS:

Here is the third in my "summer fun" series featuring a darling little gal who I captured illustrating on the concrete at my son's tennis match.

My children inspire me to persevere. They persevere at whatever subject or sport they have undertaken. While I've been painting all my life, I have wiped off more canvases than I care to admit. I realize that this is part of the process of experimentation with different media, so I try not to become too disappointed when I have nothing to show for the many hours invested. Watercolor comes more naturally to me, but I continue to challenge myself with the oil paints. My faithful followers can be the judge on how my work is progressing.

"It really is appallingly difficult to do something which is complete in every respect, and I think most people are content with mere approximations. Well, my dear friend, I intend to battle on, scrape off and start again... (Claude Monet)

Off the Drawing Board: Wedding Caricature

CARICATURE ILLUSTRATION OF BRIDE AND GROOM
Note: The watermark does not appear on the original artwork, thank you.
I am truly honored when invited to add my creative skills to someone's wedding event.
This darling bride-to-be in this photo was a return client for whose family I once created a group illustration as a Christmas gift to Mom and Dad. What a great compliment it was for her to ask me to draw this "save the date" for their upcoming wedding invitation.

"MALL CALL, Breckenridge, Colorado"

"Mall Call, Breckenridge, Colorado"/ oil on canvas 6"X8"/original oil painting
ABOUT THIS PAINTING:
This painting was done from a photo I had taken in Breckenridge, Colorado during my painting trip there in recent years. The young gal was engrossed in a cell phone conversation, oblivious to her surroundings. I was caught up in the triangle shapes and beautiful colors surrounding her glowing blue shirt. Everyone has a story and I wondered how she and her flip flops happen to land here in this beautiful Colorado weather.

These little "slice of life" scenes have always been part of my painting repertoire and I enjoy revisiting them from time to time.

"The Violinist, Honolulu, Hawaii"

"The Violinist, Honolulu, Hawaii"/ oil on canvas 6"X8"/original oil painting

This painting was done from a photo I had taken in Honolulu during my painting trip there in 2008. The violinist had made camp in a concrete pavilion, playing beautiful music whilst oblivious tourists passed by him. I was caught up in the magic his music emitted to the warmth and fun of the Waikiki beach scene.  Everyone has a story and I wondered how he and his violin happen to land here.

These little "slice of life" scenes have always been part of my painting repertoire and I enjoy revisiting them from time to time.

"Onions"

"Onions"/ oil on canvas 9"X12"/original oil painting

From the "my eyes are watering" series of kitchen art I present to you: Onions.  This is a medium sized oil on canvas. I adjusted the light to enhance the spectrum of warm colors on the onion and to cast a complementary shadow. I marveled at how many colors and lines exist in a simple "yellow" onion.
Enjoy, Eileen.

CARICATURE EVENT IN KANSAS CITY

THE CONTEST
It's always fun to see what other creative people come up with. This IT department in Kansas City had me come early to draw several employees and then had a contest to see if people at the party could guess who each drawing depicted. Apparently, my skills rendered things  well and made it too easy. I guess they must have had another "drawing" from the correct entries to determine the winner.

THANKS FOR HAVING ME TO ENTERTAIN AT YOUR EVENT!

CUSTOM CARICATURE ART VIA EMAIL

This has been quite a busy month with custom caricature artwork and event entertainment. Here is a sample of what my graphic designer daughter and I collaborate on. I draw the caricature and she designs the logo. This is an event coming up tonight at The Kansas City Improv Club in Zona Rosa.
