DRAWING OF THE WEEK

GROUP CARICATURE/LIVE PARTY CARICATURE KANSAS CITY
Group Caricature Likeness/ 3 minutes each head

Well, it is festival and party time in Kansas City. We are enjoying lovely weather and many outdoor festivals and parties. This lively bunch was a group of students from the University Of Missouri, most of whom are in the ROTC program (except the guy in the back with the great hair!) Thanks to all our military men and women who serve our country.
A special thanks to M&I Bank!

I'll be back to the easel after all these events!

Enjoy, Eileen

Orange You Tall?

Daily Painting #112/"Orange You Tall?"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"

This original oil painting is an example of  split- complementary color harmonies
using orange, purple and green.  Using a cylindrical green vase, clementine oranges, on a lavender background, I arranged the still life below my field of vision, rather than straight on, for a different point of view.

Fog Over Dillion Lake, Colorado

Daily Painting #111/" Fog Over Dillion Lake, Colorado"/Original Acrylic painting on panel 6"X8"
SOLD

One early foggy morning in September we came upon this view on lake Dillion. This painting started out as a value study in acrylic, but I quickly came to realize how well the simplicity of the high contrasts and limited palette were working. I tend to be more spontaneous with acrylics-since they dry so fast-and I so enjoy the layering and dry brush effects.

"Stacked Cups with Clementines"

Daily Painting #111/ "Stacked Cups with Clementines"/ original oil painting on Panel 6"X8"
SOLD
I changed my point of view, literally, with this oil painting, by orienting my still life below my field of vision. Looking down upon the objects give a less formal vantage point, making the painting more playful and expressive. Also, by cutting off part of the objects, the viewer is led in and around the objects, creating a more personal, contemporary composition.

"Cups and Clementines" #110

DAILY PAINTING #110/ "Cups and Clementines"/ Original Art oil painting on Panel 8"X8"
SOLD

As I embark on this second round of 100 Daily paintings, I have several goals in mind. One of my mentors advised me to challenge myself to paint each one faster now. Okay and eek! I intent to mix things up a bit, starting with still life set ups from life. For variety, I am experimenting with different surfaces, sizes and brushes. I have developed a much more precise, limited palette where I can find colors quickly.  They are easier to mix, now, after so much practice.

"Honolulu Sunset Sky"

"Honolulu Sunset Sky"/original large oil painting 11"X14"

The anniversary of 9/11 compelled me to post this larger painting of some troubled skies. I shall never forget the stillness in the skies with the absence of any jet streams or engine noise as flights were grounded.
This  original oil painting was painted on location from a balcony at The Pacific Beach Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. A storm was approaching and the dramatic sky cast dramatic shades of blue, orange and red onto the Honolulu skyline.

"Congressman Sam Graves, Pilot" #109

"Senator Sam Graves, Pilot"/ oil painting on canvas 6"X8"/original  painting
SOLD

Among the pilots at the Cameron air show this summer was our very own Congressman, Sam Graves. We had the honor of meeting the Senator on a few occasions. It was inspiring to watch him prepare his plane and take off into the air.  How wonderful it must be to be able to soar to such heights and enjoy the view.

 Enjoy your everyday!

"Hawaiian Sunset, Makapuu Point, Oahu" #108

"Hawaiian Sunset"/ oil on canvas 6"X8"/original  painting
 CLICK TO PURCHASE

This Hawaiian sunset is a view facing Makapuu Point in Oahu. What attracted me to this scene were both the colors and the contrasts. Notice the complementary blue/orange theme.
One of the best pieces of advice I received from a fellow artist was to "take more risks" with my work. I intend to implement that advice as I approach the next 100 pieces.
Challenge yourself daily.
    Enjoy, Eileen

"Colorado Horses" #107

"Colorado Horses"/ oil on archival canvas panel 6"X8"/original  painting
We just returned from a wonderful Colorado Weekend with so many inspiring places to paint. This scene was selected for a myriad of reasons-but especially for the interesting shapes and contrasts of the subjects.
 Enjoy, Eileen
