"Golden Aspen View, Oak Creek, Colorado" #132

Daily Painting #132/""Golden Aspen View, Oak Creek, Colorado" #132"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"
  Click to Purchase

Another in the Autumn Landscape series; this one, again, in Colorado. The more I paint landscapes, the more I come to appreciate the abstract nature of shapes. It seems no matter what you are painting, a sort of rhythm develops in your work.

ONE YEAR CELEBRATION:
This blog began one year ago on Thanksgiving Day, 2010.
THANKSGIVING TO:
*My fellow bloggers whose beautiful work and encouraging comments inspire me daily
*To my patrons who bestow honor upon me by choosing my work.
*Most of all, to David and the children, whose pep talks and positive attitudes embolden me to press on and keep painting.

"Autumn Aspen" #131

Daily Painting #131/"Autumn Aspen"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"

Colorado is such an inspiring place to paint landscapes. I loved this little golden Aspen shouting for attention among the bare trees.

"DRAWING OF THE WEEK": "Caricature of The Reggie"

'DRAWING OF THE WEEK" / 3-minute Party Caricature "The Reggie"
This week's drawing of the week features a delightful character who was "a caricature just waiting to happen". When Reggie sat down to be drawn at a recent event, my marker flew across the page with delight and, three minutes later "viola": The Reggie.

If you are reading this via email, go to the blog to see the other photos of Reggie holding the drawing along with some other live caricatures from the event.

(To my faithful followers: Daily paintings shall resume next week as I am tackling a large landscape painting for a client.)
Enjoy, Eileen

"BLACK-EYED SUSANS" #127

Daily Painting #127/"Black Eyed Susans"/Original pastel painting on sanded paper 11"X14"
SOLD

Working in several different mediums is advantageous since sometimes a composition plays out better in one media over another. I like the energy and colors of this pastel and the rhythmic movement of these Black-Eyed Susans in an autumn meadow at Martha Lafite Nature Sanctuary, here in Liberty, Missouri.

Click to Order A Custom Drawing

After the TV interview aired on Wednesday, Kelly Jones hosted a live remote from our hometown, Liberty, Missouri. They keep courageous hours.  I drew caricatures live at 4:30 am and stayed until 8:30 am. Whew! It was amazing to watch this award-winning news people in action. Thanks to Kelly and her team!

CARICATURE OF LIBERTY NORTH CHEERLEADERS

"Apple Debut" #126

Daily Painting #126/"Apple Debut"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"
CLICK TO PURCHASE

Another "festive" piece involving the beads, fruit, and some transparent background green glass bottles. The challenge presented by the beads forces me to summarize quickly and not get caught up in the details. The apple was actually more challenging to paint than the beads! I think because of the varied surface colors and modulation moving in and out of light.

"Talking All At Once"

Daily Painting #125/"Talking All At Once"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"
The collision of these fruits and the riot of colors brought to mind a room full of people talking all at the same time.

"ipod: MY POD#2"

Daily Painting #124/"MY POD; ipod #2 & blue Shadows"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"

Here is the second of the ipod paintings; this time with a more pronounced shadow and subtle value changes indicative of the the dark, (replacement) headphones. If you look closely, you'll see the subtle warm/cool changes in the cord as it rises and falls from the surface. The cord made for some wonderful abstract patterns.  Ya gotta love those yummy cobalt blue shadows.

"iPOD:MY POD #1"

Daily Painting #123/"My Pod, ipod #1"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X8"

This was one of a series I began a this past summer, which I never got around to posting until now. What compelled me to paint this was the challenge such a dark line of the headphones moving up- and-down; in-and-out of the picture plane. Also, the blue cast shadow on the light ground, and the off-set positioning of the composition gave it a contemporary, lively juxtaposition. Another one tomorrow.

 Enjoy, Eileen

"Television Debut"

CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO OF KCTV 5 Art Studio Interview with Kelly Jones

******************************

Well, I had an opportunity to put my degree in Public Speaking to good use as the interview with the lovely Kelly Jones of KCTV 5 debuted this morning. It was great fun and she does a wonderful job of making the interviewees feel comfortable-particularly for  those wearing braces (I hide them well)!
TV anchors must be commended for rising so early! We are doing a live remote at 4:15 am on friday. Look for us then!

"Fruit Jamboree"

Daily Painting #122/"Fruit Jamboree"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"
SOLD

Well, I finally got "fed-up" as my still life paintings involving apples had more "still" and less "life".  My approach here was to paint it as if I were painting an underpainting. The value range was limited; the colors planned & mixed; consequently, I didn't over think it.   Can you tell that I had a festive time?

Also, in addition to my one woman show in Liberty's City Hall, I have 5 pieces on display at the Prairie Village Municipal Building in Prairie Village, Kansas. This group exhibit by the Greater Kansas City Art Association opens on Friday, November 11, 2011.

  Enjoy, Eileen
