2012 Graduation Group Caricature

Did you enjoy your high school years?
Graduates, today, have so many opportunities...
This group of Liberty High School Graduates obviously had a great time together!
They are using this original caricature illustration for a unique invitation/announcement and as a poster-size display for the party.
 Enjoy, Eileen

Daily Painting #156/ THE PROM DATE/Portrait of Lincoln/ 8X6

First Step to painting the portrait

Daily Painting #156/"The Prom Date"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"
Ever wonder why a portrait artist paints so many apples? Because the practice makes you a better portrait painter. Painting the head, follows the same basic principles as painting a still life or landscape: you paint the shapes, the planes, the values, the direction of light. The basic head shape could be compared to painting the apples; the projections from the head's form could be compared to the slanted planes of the mountains or the upright planes of the trees or a building.  So, go paint your apples!

This painting is of our son, Lincoln.

"One Apple Up On Top 2"-#155

Daily Painting #155/"One Apple Up On Top 2"/Original oil painting on panel 10"X8"

What artist doesn't enjoy discovering new color combinations?
This week, I "mixed it up" a bit with some Thalo Blue and Cad Red Medium. The combination makes some delicious, warm browns or deep, cool dark blues.
Add a little white, and you get a colorful gray.
It also helped give the painting some cohesion as I limited the palette to only a few colors.

"The Kindle Reader" #154

"The Kindle Reader" 10"X8" Original painting by Eileen McCoy
Daily Painting #154/"The Kindle Reader"/Original oil painting on panel 10"X8"
Once again, a return to painting the figure and portraits at the bequest of family and friends. While still life paintings and landscape paintings add to one's artistic vocabulary, it is with the figure and the portrait that I am most deeply inspired. Who could resist the gesture of this fine chap reading from this small electronic book. His posture seems to indicate his intrigue with the technology.

  Enjoy, Eileen

"PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" -little girl braiding her hair.
Daily Painting #153/"Practice Makes Perfect"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"
It's so nice to be back in the studio painting after several weeks of deadlines and larger commissions. I am excited about a new palette I've got going and am enjoying the results. This was painted from some sketches and photos taken on a cruise ship. The little girl was perfectly posed braiding and re-braiding her hair.

Enjoy, Eileen
