"You Know The Drill"

Daily Painting #150/"You Know The Drill/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"

My son just looked over my shoulder and asked why I was posting our drill online.
Ha! I would never surrender my DeWalt cordless drill!

This particular oil painting was done from life, instead of a photo; which I find helps me to eliminate confusion over what details to leave out (I squint alot).
Though I often paint from photos, it expands my visual vocabulary to paint from life.
I used some artistic license to animate the subject just slightly, giving it a more laser-gun appeal. This becomes more apparent if you were to compare it to the photo-taken afterwards- of the drill itself.

  Enjoy, Eileen

"Plum Acquisition"

Daily Painting #149/"Plum Acquisition"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"
Today's still life incorporates muted violets against brighter yellows and reds.
Just bouncing around ideas in color and light...

"Unaccompanied Apple"

Daily Painting #148/"Unaccompanied Apple"/Original oil painting on panel 6"X6"

This painting blog began with a rather difficult attempt at painting apples.
Returning to the subject, provides a means of comparison;
a measure of progress, if you will.
A life long painter in water color and pastels, I am at greater ease with the oil medium, which, hopefully, is becoming evident in the work.

  Enjoy, Eileen

"CARICATURE DRAWING OF THE WEEK"

50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY GIFT
Original Caricature Drawing by Eileen
Order Custom Caricatures Here

Many of my clients come up with great, original ideas. When Tina gave me an old wedding photo to draw from, I was delighted to put a contemporary twist this formal "standard" wedding photo from the 1960's. Such a darling couple!
It's such a joy to become part of people's lives for their special occasions.

   Enjoy, Eileen

"Orange Elevated"

Daily Painting #147/ "Orange Elevated"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"

Continuing with the orange quest (a vitamin C need?)-this setup explores complementary colors, reflections, and contrasting cast shadows vs. form shadows. I like leaving a bit of the under painting to hold things together.
When setting up still life objects to paint, I often get inspiration from the pile of objects that have been cast off to the side. Somehow they are less contrived than the setups I attempt to orchestrate.  Funny how that works!

 Enjoy, Eileen

"POLO FARM"

Not-so-daily Painting #142/"Polo Farm"/Original oil painting on canvas 24"X30"
SOLD
This painting was a special commission for some very dear friends of their farm land in Polo, Missouri. A year in the making, we had to wait patiently for the right photos to achieve just the lighting for the prairie grass field. It was an honor to paint this for them.
Look for the unveiling photo on my facebook fan page below.

Enjoy, Eileen

"Orange Front Runner"

Daily Painting #141/"Orange Front Runner"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"

Still on the campaign trail with these oranges: Here they are all lined up behind their podiums (pedestals) debating one another; Iron sharpening iron. The mirrored reflection imposed an unexpected "checkerboard" pattern in this contemporary oil painting.

  Enjoy, Eileen

"Orange Medley"

Daily Painting #140"Orange Medley"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"

Still exploring the still life with oranges. A good practice for any painter is to deploy a constant reportraire of mixtures for any given color. This was painted with a limited palette, keeping in mind the value range.  Enjoy, Eileen

Orange Traffic

Original Oil painting by ©eileenmccoy.com
Daily Painting #139/"Orange Traffic"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8'
PURCHASE THIS PAINTING

JOKE FOR TODAY:
Q: Why was the girl staring at the carton of orange juice?
A: It said concentrate.
Okay, sorry but I couldn't resist.
Painting really is a wonderful way to improve one's concentration, though and varying one's subject matter is helpful. I make it a practice to shift between plein air painting (painting directly from life) alternately with using photographic references.  I set up this still life and painted directly from them, using a limited palette.
It is nice to be back to the daily paintings again...

 Enjoy, Eileen

Susan Hiland Caricature

Kansas City Caricature Art by Eileen McCoy, Caricature Artist
Caricicature of Susan Hiland

The online paintings shall return soon!
In the meantime, I give you another 3-minute party caricature. I don't often get copies of the more than 1500 people I draw annually, but Susan was kind enough to provide a copy. She is another of Kansas City's local news anchor's whom I have had the pleasure and privilege of drawing.
I have met Susan on a few occasions and she is, I might add, as nice as she is beautiful!

 Enjoy, Eileen
