Beach Boy & Bucket

Daily Painting #171/"Beach Boy & Bucket"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"

This painting is featured as this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge. The challenge is to:
Paint using the primary colors: red, yellow and blue as the 3 main areas of your composition. Be sure to get at least 3 values in each color area. To create colorful grays for surrounding areas, mix the 3 primaries together in varying degrees, being mindful to keep the grays "cool" or "warm"- and not muddy. Use the photo provided, or a composition of your choice.

Enjoy! Enjoy, Eileen

MY BALLOON-Party Caricature

3-minute Party Caricature/ MY BALLOON

Kids "do" the darn-est things, to paraphrase the late Art Linkletter. This little gal came to my Caricature stand with balloon in hand and "froze her pose". Upon confirming that she could hold that for 3 minutes, the drawing emerged. I so enjoy the creative ideas that my subjects throw my way, and try to go with the moment...
  Enjoy, Eileen

CHOIR GIRLS

Daily Painting #170/ "CHOIR GIRLS"/ oil on panel 8 X 6
SOLD
The Liberty High School Choir was in full regalia performing at last year's Liberty Fall festival. The morning light gave a warm glow as these beauties performed; the colors were rich with deep contrasts. You can almost hear the music...

"She Said "YES!"-Marriage Proposal Caricature #07-12

Engaged Couple-Marriage Proposal Caricature

Original Caricature Art Drawings by Eileen McCoy, Kansas City Artist

What are the "Rules of Engagement?": Make it memorable, make it fun, and a picture is worth a thousand words, guys...

This young man took the edge off of his anticipation via a caricature drawing, depicting him down on one knee, popping the question. What a joyful moment!

She was overwhelmed. I left the room so they could have some privacy...
They can use this drawing as framable art, an enlargement at the reception, for save-the-dates, on t-shirts or as coloring pages at the event.
If you are out-of-state or just can't come by the studio, these illustrations  can be drawn from photos, as well.

"PIZZA BY THE SLICE"

Daily Painting #169/"Pizza by the Slice, Oahu, Hawaii"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"

Here's a little "slice-of-life" painting, so to speak. This restaurant in Hawaii was called
"Pizza By The Slice". The Dad here is, obviously, less hungry than the daughter-or, perhaps he gave into her begging and was more interested in just spending some time together.
What interested me, was the juxtaposition of the figures amid the graphic backdrop.

"FRIENDSHIP BENCH"

Daily Painting #168/"Friendship Bench"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X8"

What comes to your mind when you see these figures? Many things attracted me to this composition as I continue to explore how light and shadows form on the figure. The painted concrete wall provided an attractive backdrop for these two friends waiting for a parade to start on Kansas street in downtown Liberty, Missouri. Again, the graphic shadows come into play with the dance of the dark and light contrasts.
  Enjoy, Eileen

"A GOOD SUMMER READ"

Daily Painting #167/"A Good Summer Read"/Original oil painting on panel 8"X6"

Who doesn't like to people watch?
The summer light fell just right on this relaxed reader by the beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The geometrical shapes formed by the shadows, attracted me to this scene.
What do you think?

This little gal was taking a break during a Caribbean Cruise. I couldn't resist capturing her posture with the colors and the expressive simplicity of life.

Another grouping of figures; a subject I shall be exploring more in depth.
This is a dear family whose last name happens to be "Freeman". I was thinking about the freedom and joy in the mountains (were they rock climbing?) and the upcoming 4th of July celebration. I just loved this grouping of figures; the contrasts, the cast shadows, the funny, colorful helmets and the posturing of each person. It was almost caricature-like.
It was a delight to paint this!
