#197 "Knot In Kansas"

"KNOT IN KANSAS" by ©, 24 X36" Oil on canvas.

This painting, (a commission for a 60th birthday), featured the client's Meridian Yacht ("Knot in Kansas") in Roche Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington. The Harbor Marina boasted warm autumn colors, complementing  the blue sky and water. Along with some small oil sketches,  the client was presented with a mock-up of the painting placed over the mantle in their living room. Using these methods ( Since a picture is worth a thousand words), I was able to help them visualize how the finished work would blend into their surroundings.

It was a labor of love to paint this for this delightful Seattle couple, who received it with delight! I thank them for this honor.
I am really going to miss this scene.
There's a void in the studio now
so it's on to the next painting!

 Enjoy, Eileen

#196/ "BO, The Barista"-Original oil on canvas by Eileen McCoy

© oil portrait

Here is another live model painting done in about 2.5 hours.

Have you ever wondered if Barista is an appropriate title for a male drink server?
Is it only appropriate for coffee preparation or other drinks?

Here's what my research uncovered:

The word barista is of Italian origin, and in Italian, a barista is a male or female "bartender", who typically works behind a counter, serving both hot drinks (such as espresso), and cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, not a coffee-maker specifically.

It's such a small world. When Cathy's Co-worker's hired me to create this large 16"X20" color caricature,  I realized that she and I graduated from high school together.

This color Caricature creation will be matted and then signed by all the co-workers and doctors. The client had a general idea of what she wanted, but gave me the creative license to expound upon that and interject my own "groaner puns" and layout ideas.

"The Doctor's Are In"

Group Caricature of Physicians

The trick to capturing a great likeness in Caricature Art is to start with great photos. Much time is spent examining the features and expressions of the subjects in an attempt to extract their hidden personalities. Live caricatures can be drawn much faster as all the information you need is sitting right in front of the artist.

A client once remarked "Watch out-She will capture your spirit!"
That is, indeed, the goal of an authentic caricature.
It is because of this added dimension that a caricature can often resemble a subject more than an actual photograph!

LIVELY Company Christmas Party Caricatures

This Month's marathon of parties and special events, features caricatures done
at a company Christmas party. This was a lively group celebrating their 40th anniversary in business. Each party uniquely reflects the individuals in attendance; giving the event its own individual persona. The music, the laughter, and the live caricatures all add to the ambiance. These are just a few of the caricatures drawn live in about 3 minutes a piece.

If you've got a special event in the Kansas City metro, Live caricature art entertainment is a great ice breaker!

"I've been workin' on the railroad..."

"...all the live-long days"
I've got the song stuck in my head after attending an event for a lively group of
railroad workers last night in Shawnee Kansas. These Caricatures were drawn in 3 minutes per person.

My favorite subjects, are those who poke fun at themselves...and/or their spouses!
Some subjects, too, possess a beard or hair style with a "life of its own".
Take a look:
