"COLORED PENCIL RIOT"

©EILEENMCCOY.COM oil on canvas panel 10" x 8"

On rainy days, there's often a riot going on in my studio. I look around for something interesting to paint then shed some light on it and viola: a painting of pencils.

"Red buds and Rain"- springtime in my home town.

11"x14" oil on canvas. "Red buds and Rain"

It was a rainy day in Liberty, Missouri. The spring trees were in full bloom and the fragrance of lilacs were in the air; the rain just deepened the colors and the towns people insisted on getting out.
A very nice gal, who sported a Royals shirt, paused for a moment in the crosswalk.
Another nice lady took photos and sent them to me.

To quote a friend of ours: " it's nice to be nice".

Cheery spring!

The Youth Of Marianna-Oil on Canvas

©eileenmccoy.com/oil on canvas/10" X8"/The Youth of Marianna

Marianna, Arkansas: Some of the students in this small rural town paused from their meandering stroll to pose for me in the evening sun.
I love painting cloisters of figures.
These boys sort of travel as a unit and it was no problem for them to line up for a unit
hug.The systematic arrangement of these figures along with the color and shapes of their sagging, curvy pants, and the evening light on their warm brown complexions provided a dynamic exploration of color, light and simplified brush strokes.

It is one of my 2 entries selected for the 2015 MVIS juried exhibition in St Louis, MO (location below.)
The painting is for show and sale at the venue below:

VOLKER Memorial Fountain, KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

©eileenmccoy.com/VOLKER FOUNTAIN /20"X16" OIL ON CANVAS

The evening shadows from the trees mimicked the rhythm of the water dancing up from the fountains at the William Volker Memorial fountain  in Kansas City (Volker Park).
This was painted in the open air (en plein aire). The rushing water also provide a foil to the noisy traffic nearby. I find, though, that the energy in the bustling urban centers inspires me to paint.

KAW Point Riverfront Park, Kansas City, Kansas

©eileenmccoy.com Oil on canvas 20"X16"

2015 began with a chilly morning paintout at
Kaw Point Riverfront Park in Kansas City.
There was a beautiful view of the Kansas City skyline from this vantage point.
On this particular morning, the ice was breaking and thawing in the distance as it trudged crustily along the river.
My goal was to capture the sense of atmosphere while offsetting the
the urban skyline within the framework of the natural River bed.

This painting can be purchased directly from the artist.

"THE MYTH OF THE YELLOW PENCIL"-oil on canvas by EILEEN MCCOY

'THE MYTH OF THE YELLOW PENCIL" ©2015eileenmccoy.com

"The Myth Of the Yellow Pencil"

This painting, (along with my other entry to be posted later) was inspired by my daughter's art class in an humble area of Arkansas. It is one of my 2 entries selected for the 2015 MVIS juried exhibition in St Louis, MO (location below.) The classroom has a riot of cups filled with yellow pencils in varying degrees of size and sharpness (or lack thereof). The yellow pencils (unlike the rigid yellow school busses used for transporting the students) represented the freedom of expression and individuality of the children. The pencils flow haphazardly in the dingy plastic cups, which were clearly left behind by someone's random lunch-run many years prior.

The painting is for show and sale at the venue below:
